Funny enough growing up my mother used to buy movies and books but would rip/scan them to be able to watch/read them more easily when she was out doing errands or waiting for me or my siblings at the library or something.

  • @jamesfischer8667 on March 19, 2024

Can someone explain why they would get sued for doing a beauty pageant? What does this have to do with Nintendo?

  • @sanguineel on March 20, 2024

HDMI has its issues but i really dislike displayport

  • @microcolonel on March 21, 2024

Reverse engineering is already possible. Likely somebody will do it and contribute an implementation upstream.

Re: Topic 8, Google tried the same thing with the Pixel, calling the subscription "Pixel Pass". They canned it before users would have gotten their first upgrade.

  • @simenbrenna on April 9, 2024

I would say carrying audio was a huge factor, as soundcards was a HUGE industry prior to "HDMI on mainstream GPU's" era. HDMI litterally killed an industry within PC's, saying thats not significant is pure hubris

  • @gunterandersson on April 24, 2024

  • @JohnWiku on April 27, 2024

I don't think the self ripper is a hypothetical person. That is literally me, but maybe I'm the exception. I finally dove in and got a NAS a couple weeks ago and now I can't believe it took me this long to get one, and I'm mad at myself that I've spent a single dollar on cloud storage, let alone what I've actually spent on it over the years. Well now I'm down the NAS rabbit hole and I'm researching how to rip blurays because I do a lot of work for goodwill and am regularly at their locations in a 3.5 hour radius from my house, and that's a lot of locations in that area. My wife also does a lot of thrifting. Anyway, they always have huge bins of DVDs and Blurays for next to nothing each. I already told my wife to keep an eye out for any Blurays she would like to add to the library. All of this to say it's literally harder and more work to rip my own purchased Blurays than it is to just pirate them outright or just pay for some IPTV service that likely already has most of what I would want anyway. When pirating is the EASIER method, and it's also FREE… Of course people are going to go that route.

  • @deadlock_problem on April 29, 2024

I don't get how piracy is an issue there are a couple good sites and there are only like 2 formats? mkv and mp4. You download that, you turn on extension on windows to make sure it's not an exe and just play it? I don't think I've ever seen malware masquerading as movies.

  • @nesamdoom on May 8, 2024

I ripped all of my good movies from dvd and then gave away every dvd I owned. I don't see the problem with that, I still paid for the movie.

Linus deserved a "ding" for that "they linused it" chirp near the end 💀

@2:49:26 Should I get PCs for kids, or use virtual machines? Here is why we need external bootable drives with no performance penalty.

  • @bartbasil3704 on May 26, 2024
